The best destinations for photographers: our top 10 list

Travel and photography simply belong together. This is the only way to save your memories and experiences for eternity - and to take yourself back to the wonderful vacation spots when you look at the pictures. The choice of possible destinations for photography enthusiasts is vast, however: whether it's vibrant cities or breathtaking landscapes - the world offers us countless excellent places to not only have a great vacation, but also to take beautiful pictures. In this article, we present our top 10 list of the best destinations for photographers.

This means that we think they are the best photo destinations. Of course, we are not claiming that these are the best photo locations in the world. Tastes are (fortunately) too different for that.

1 Santorini - the white and blue of Greece

Santorini is one of the most popular destinations in Greece. The picturesque island villages with their blue and white houses and the deep blue waters of the Aegean are of indescribable beauty and harmony. It is not for nothing that professional photo shoots are often carried out here. Santorini is also very popular with landscape photographers thanks to its unique rock formations.

2 Machu Picchu - time travel into Peru's past

Machu Picchu is located in the mountains of Peru and offers a majestic backdrop for photographers. The Inca ruins date back to the 15th century and allow visitors to travel back in time. The excellently preserved buildings provide an incomparable insight into a lost culture. The power and fascination of the place can also be captured perfectly in pictures.

You can also find the right camera bag for your equipment and everything you need to protect your camera in our Oberwerth Shop. From classic camera bags to modern sling bags up to noble photo weekenders and backpacks. Of course you will also find hand straps and shoulder straps. Finest craftsmanship made from the best materials. Take a look around and find the bags & accessories that best suit you and your equipment!

3 Iceland - rugged volcanic island in the far north

Iceland is a treasure trove for photographers. The island transports you to another world. Waterfalls, geysers, glaciers, steep coastlines, fjords and, of course, volcanoes are just a few examples of what captivates photographers here. Iceland offers motifs that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. However, you should love outdoor vacations if you choose this destination. The best places to take pictures require hiking. A good example of this is the Vatnajökull Ice Cave, located in Skaftafell National Park. Its light makes every visitor immediately reach for their camera.

4 Rome - the ancient center of Europe

Rome offers photographers numerous opportunities: These range from impressive ancient sights such as the Colosseum as well as the Forum to the breathtaking sacred buildings such as St. Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. Then there are the snapshots of the delicious food in the local restaurants. Although the former capital of the empire is particularly worth a visit for history buffs, it also offers numerous other worthwhile motifs.

5. the Australian outback - the rugged side of Australia

The Australian outback offers an incredible landscape backdrop of desert landscapes, rock formations shaped over thousands of years and endless horizons. The rugged, imposing nature with vibrant colors and sheer endless expanse is an eye-catcher for every photographer in the best sense of the word. The visit can be perfectly combined with a vacation at Whitehaven Beach, which itself deserves a place as one of the best photography destinations.

6 Bali - island of the gods

Bali is a tropical paradise in the Indian Ocean with a fascinating culture and an impressive landscape. The Hindu temples, the green rice terraces and the dream beaches make Bali a unique photo destination that will inspire every photographer. And it wouldn't be the first time that visitors have stayed forever. It's not for nothing that this entry in our top 10 photo destinations is called the Island of the Gods.

7 Galapagos Islands - a natural paradise in the Pacific

The Galapagos Islands are famous for their unique wildlife, which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Photographers will find subjects here that put their skills and their camera to the test, as many of the animals are incredibly photogenic but simply won't sit still. The Galapagos Islands are a must for any photographer who also appreciates a little adventure.

8 Dubai - the modern world in the middle of the desert

Dubai is known for its modern and futuristic buildings. It offers photographers one of the most spectacular skylines in the world. The city on the Persian Gulf is characterized by dynamic buildings that constantly push the boundaries of what was previously thought possible. The desert offers a strangely harmonious contrast that immediately casts a spell over the viewer.

9 Victoria Falls - impressive natural spectacle in Africa

The Victoria Falls are one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and are 1.7 kilometers wide. The water plunges 100 meters into the depths. The resulting spray can still be seen 30 kilometers away. It is a special experience to take photos from the very first sighting. They are a reminder of how powerful and impressive nature can be.

10 New York City - never sleep in the Big Apple

New York City really needs no special introduction. The city's skyline not only offers endless motifs, but is already part of countless posters, films and pictures. However, the locations for great shots in the Big Apple are by no means limited to Manhattan's skyscrapers. From Times Square to Central Park, from the Statue of Liberty to the Brooklyn Bridge - there is always a new motif to discover in the city that never sleeps.

A little bonus: some beautiful photo locations in Germany

It doesn't always have to be abroad to take beautiful photos. There are also some excellent photography destinations in Germany. For example, visit the Saar Loop at sunrise, explore the Geierlay suspension rope bridge with your camera (but only if you're not afraid of heights) or take pictures of the pile dwellings in St. Peter-Ording. If you are interested in history, it is worth visiting the Beelitz-Heilstätten. The building, which was abandoned after the Second World War, was a hospital center near Berlin for over 50 years.

Conclusion: Our list of top locations for photographers can serve as inspiration for you

The world offers a multitude of beautiful and impressive photo locations. However, the top 10 list of the best destinations for photographers is just a small taste of what creative and leisure lovers have to discover. If you are currently planning to go on a photo trip, you can use our top 10 list as inspiration.
